getting the hang of it

I suppose being a mom comes naturally to some women. Others pretend that it does. I suppose I fall into the latter category, because to be quite honest, Motherhood hit me like a ton of bricks. After Charlie was born, it felt like my life stopped for about two weeks. I loved our new little guy from the top of his fuzzy head to the tips of his squishy little toes... but getting into the flow of "mommy-life" was a challenge, to say the least. I had to deal with a whole new set of challenges, like "How do I shower when it's just me and him alone in the house?" or "Um, remind me how you're supposed to clean a belly button again?" {Also, what about finding time for my photography? What am I supposed to blog about now? This is all exciting stuff for a new mom, but really, does the internet truly want to know how you're not supposed to cut an infant's fingernails until three or four weeks after birth... and how someone forgot to tell me that rule?}

However, ahem, I'm slowly {read: s-l-o-w-l-y} getting the hang of things. Mr. Charlie is turning out to be quite the peach of a baby {he's currently snoring in my sister's arms. um, is there anything better than a snoring baby?}, and even though our lives are turned upside down by this little life... we're learning that right about now, this upside-down world is looking pretty good :)

By the way, I always told myself that I wouldn't be one of those moms. You know--the mom who posts a million pictures of her baby all over her blog, as if anyone wants to see hundreds of variations of the same baby's facial expressions...

Yep. I'm one of those.

Fear not. I'll keep my baby blogs to a minimum, since they basically represent the maniacal impulse that every mom feels... to show you that my. baby. is. the. cutest. thing. ever. born. EVER.

Normal blogging to resume shortly ;)

Sounds like you are doing everything right to me. :-) Having a baby is definitely the most draining and yet most rewarding transition. Hope we can hang out soon. :-)

Uhm, really? Not supposed to cut finger nail for 3-4 WEEKS??? With as fast as those baby nails grow? I guess I messed that one up all 3 times. I don't think it had long-term ramifications, so don't worry about doing it to Charlie.

Please be one of those moms who plasters her baby all over your blog! He's adorable and those baby expressions don't last forever. Share the beauty of our Lord's creation with the world!

And after 9-1/2 years I still don't know how to take a shower when it's just me and the kids. It was easier when they were babies... now they tear up the house! (Seriously, the bouncy seat in the bathroom can offer just barely enough time for a shower.)

Thanks for giving us a glipse through your window into mommy-hood!
