baby Charlie

Our little Charlie was born in the wee hours of the morning on Monday, February 1st. He made his appearance after only five hours of labor {a pretty sweet deal for this first-time momma!}, and weighed in at just under nine pounds. We really, really love him :)

It's been almost two weeks, and I've barely glanced at the computer... but today, I've got a minute or two while our little man snoozes. So here's a quick glimpse into what our life is looking like these days:

"They" say that having a baby turns your world upside-down. First time moms are warned about sleep deprivation, shower-less days, colicky infants, projectile spit-up, and a host of other post-baby "complications." So you try and brace yourself for all those icky mommy-moments, when you're ready to throw in the towel and quit. You close your eyes, and when that baby comes, you wait for the inevitable, because everyone tells you that life as you knew it is now over.

Well, they're right.

But...

What they don't tell you is this:

That, after a long, long day, the look in your husband's eyes when he comes home from work and sits down to snuggle with your little man makes it one-hundred million percent worth it.

Or, that after the fourth dirty diaper in ten minutes (nope, not exaggerating), your little guy will look up at you and hiccup, and you'll melt and tell him he can poop all day for all you care.

They don't tell you about the incredible feeling you'll get when you lay down for a nap with your baby, and he snuggles right into you and falls asleep.

They don't tell you that it will break your heart to hear him cry, or make your day to see him smile, and thus, you're in for lots of heartbreak, and lots of happy days.

I could go on and on, but I'll spare you :) Let's just leave it at this: as a brand-new momma, speaking quite frankly, this parenting business is probably the very hardest thing I've ever done. And yes, it is absolutely, completely worth it--stinky diapers, spit-up, sleep deprivation and all.

Now, if you would excuse me... Mr. Totally-Worth-It is wide awake ;)

This is the part where college gets really hard. Good ol' St. Louie is way too far away for my own good! That baby is just BEGGING to be held and cuddled by cousin Erin! OoooOOOOOh!

Congratulations my beautiful, wonderful, and amazing cousin Sherah. You are Marty are truly going to be incredible parents and Charlie is one lucky kid!

I can't wait to kiss that soft head, smell that baby smell, and hold those teeny tiny feet in my hands!

Love you all!
